| Canadian Government Scholarships 2026 |
The Government of Canada has officially opened applications for Canadian Government Scholarships 2026, offering fully funded opportunities for international students to study and conduct research at Canadian universities and colleges.
These scholarships are administered through Global Affairs Canada and EduCanada, aiming to strengthen international partnerships and develop human capital through educational exchange.
These scholarships cover all essential expenses, including tuition, round-trip airfare, health insurance, visa and permit fees, living costs, and local transportation.
The programs are designed for short-term study or research exchanges ranging from 4 to 6 months, allowing students to remain enrolled at their home institutions while earning academic credits in Canada.
There are three main programs for 2026:
1. Study in Canada Scholarships 2026
This program targets students from select countries in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Eligible countries include Bangladesh, Nepal, Taiwan, Türkiye, Ukraine, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda.
It supports short-term study or research exchanges at Canadian post-secondary institutions and strengthens academic linkages between Canada and these regions. Funding includes CAD $10,200 for 4-month undergraduate or graduate exchanges and CAD $14,000 for 5-6 month graduate research programs.
2. Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) 2026
ELAP is aimed at students from Latin America and the Caribbean, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, and other countries in the region. Established in 2009, the program develops human capital, nurtures future leaders, and strengthens Canada-Americas institutional partnerships.
Funding includes CAD $8,200 for 4-month college, undergraduate, or graduate programs, and CAD $11,100 for 5-6 month graduate research projects. Eligible students can pursue short-term study or research at Canadian institutions, earning valuable international experience while fostering leadership and collaboration.
3. SEED-2 Scholarships 2026
The Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development Phase 2 (SEED-2) program targets students from ASEAN member states, Pacific Island countries, and Mongolia. This program focuses on research or studies contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly projects that address poverty reduction and sustainable development.
Eligible countries include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, as well as Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Mongolia.
Funding ranges from CAD $10,200 for 4-month graduate research projects to CAD $12,700 for 5-6 month research periods. Students are expected to align their research with the SDGs and demonstrate potential impact in their home regions.
What’s Covered:
- Tuition is waived at Canadian institutions (students remain enrolled and pay tuition at home)
- Round-trip airfare
- Health insurance
- Visa/study/work permit fees
- Living expenses (housing, food, utilities)
- Local transportation
- Books and academic supplies
Canadian host institutions also receive CAD $500 per scholarship to cover administrative costs.
Eligibility:
- Must be a citizen of an eligible country
- Must be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in the home country
- Cannot be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Must not hold another Canadian government or federal grant
- All documentation, including enrollment proof, transcripts, letters of support, and for graduate research, an invitation letter from a Canadian supervisor, must be submitted
